Betula costata

An interesting birch from East-Asia (Russia, Korea). The pinkish-brown bark of older trees peels  revealing more intensely coloured younger bark.

Leaves are similar to silver birch. Betula costata is somewhat smaller, growing up to 20m tall.

Has shallow roots and thus does not tolerate dry soil.

Very beautiful as solo tree or as a small standalone group.
