Medium tree (up to 20m. tall) from Far-East (Japan, Korea, China, Russia).
Resembles our native black alder. Leaves are wide-lanceolate and intense green. The bark is dark gray on young branches, dull gray and somewhat corky on older branches and trunks.
Grows well on wetlands. Prefers full sub but tolerates semi-shade. Very decorative tree in small groups near ponds or rivers.
