Spreading bellflower is one of the most common meadow flowers of Northn Europe. One plant bears many branches with delicate pale blue flowers. Normally grows up to 50cm tall with up to 20 flowers, but on the absence of competition can grow much bigger - up to 80cm with more than 100 flowers.

It is biennial flower. On the first year the plant develops a rosette of short stalked leaves, on the second years the flowers-stems sprout out from the rosette. After flowering the plant dies. Seeds are very small (approx 50 000 seeds per gram) and propagate readily with wind.
