A perennial plant, a member of Poaceae. Grows in a dense clump about 15-60 cm in height. Flattened spikelets rattle in the slightest breeze, being an attractive eye-catcher. Adds structure to the garden.

Widespread in grasslands and tolerates poor conditions. Flowers from June to August.

Beautiful in bouquets.
