Small tree or large shrub from Far-East (China, Korea). In native habitat grows up to 30m tall, in Estonia is smaller. Unlike most maples it has separated leaflets.
Trunk is usually curved, bark is gray. Young leaves are bronze-colored, then turn intense green at summer and bright read at autumn. Flowers in June are small and greenish.
Needs fertile soil and protection from northern winds.
