Siberian pine grows natively in vast area between Ural mountains and Russain Far-East. Needles are 5-10cm long. Cones are big (5-10cm), seeds are edible and can be used as a substitute for pinia seeds. Foliage is dark green.
Siberian pine grows in continental climate and tolerates very cold winters (-50c). In maritime climate the mild winters and changing temperatures make siberian pine more suspectible to diseases. Still it grows reasonably well in Estonia, as long as the soil is not too wet.
Siberian pine is spectacular solo tree, in large gardens and parks can also be grown in groups.
