Evergreen coniferous tree, native to western parts of North America. The tallest trees may grow up to 60 meters, although in our climate this rarely happens. Cedar is sensitive to cold.
Younger trees have cone-like shape and red-brownish smooth bark. Older specimen turn to grayish-brown and have scrabous bark.
Grows in (moderately) moist soils and in (part) shade. In its native area, it could be found in riverbanks and forested swamps.
The wood of cedar is considered as a valuable and high-quality product. It is used in making of musical instruments, little boats etc.
Cedar is allergenic and may cause allergic reactions.
